„Soll ich euch eine Geschichte erzählen?“, fragt Valentina – Armeehose, Trainingsjacke, wilde Haare mit einer winzigen Spange. Sie vertraut uns an, warum sie nicht als Junge geboren wurde, so wie es hätte sein müssen. Überhaupt kennt Valentina jedes Detail ihrer Familiengeschichte: Wie ihr Vater mit Saft und einer Schachtel Zigaretten das Herz ihrer Mutter erobert hat, warum ihre Schwester von den Schwiegereltern mit einer Pistole bedroht wurde und wo ihre Geschwister hingebracht wurden, nachdem man sie beim Betteln erwischt hat. Valentina lebt mit ihrer 12-köpfigen Familie in einer baufälligen Einzimmerhütte im Roma-Viertel Shutka, in Skopje, Mazedonien. Alltagsbeobachtungen mischen sich mit persönlicher Erzählung, Träume mit wahren Begebenheiten. Am Ende wird klar, dass alles Geschichtenerzählen nur eine Übung für Valentinas großen Traum ist.
